On the penultimate track of their A Cold Day In Hell project, Drakeo the Ruler and Ralfy the Plug trade bars with their signature styles over dark and stormy production. As Drakeo methodically lambasts his enemies for refusing to be out on the streets, his whisper raps mold perfectly with the hi-hat-laden beat. He raps, “he’s a homebody, he’s got nobody,” with such a steely delivery that it almost makes you pity the subject of his disdain. Ralfy delivers threats as cool as Drakeo’s, promising to pull up to his rivals’ condo lobby like it’s no problem. We are also given a final opportunity to hear from the late Stinc Team member Ketchy the Great, who passed away in February, and to whom this project is dedicated. His verse is the star of this track, and his abrasive voice represents a gravitating foil to the subdued delivery of the other two rappers. In just 20 seconds, you’re reminded of Ketchy’s aptitude for greatness, as he blisters through boasts and threats of bodily harm with reckless abandon. “Homebody” gives a chance to hear Ketchy at his peak, which he surely would have surpassed at some point. Long live the Great.
